Honey Singh recalls getting diagnosed with bipolar disorder and psychotic symptoms during Raw Star and making a comeback after his treatment

Singer-rapper Honey Singh made a name for himself in the early-2010s as he took the music industry by storm with his songs. However, the star soon saw his downfall when he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and psychotic symptoms during the shoot of his reality show Raw Stars. He went off the radar to complete his treatment however the audience was not as welcoming as before. During a recent interaction with Siddharth Kannan, he opened up about his comeback journey.

Taking the RJ, he recalled that his diagnoses came at a time when he was working on very important projects like the SLAM tour with Shah Rukh Khan, his Punjabi film and his reality show Raw Star. Quoted by Hindustan Times, he said, “When I fell ill a lot of things were going on in life. I had the SLAM tour with Shah Rukh Khan. I had worked on a Star Plus project, I chose its name. I designed it for a year. When the show started, a lot of work was there. I was also doing a Punjabi film. A lot of things were happening. When I collapsed, when I had bipolar disorder and psychotic symptoms on set of Raw Star, maine kaha kuch problem hai mere dimaag mein, kuch hogaya hai. Mereko isko theek karne do.”


The 39-year-old rapper went on to share that his family members were worried about the facing losses, breaking contracts and getting sued but all he wanted to do was complete his treatment. Talking about how after his comeback people didn’t accept him and compared him to his younger self, he said, “It took me five years, I got better. I then wanted to make music. I told my mother, 'I'm unable to do anything'. She told me, 'You started as a music producer, start writing beats'... My songs became hit, I was making a comeback, but was facing failures too. Mota tha, logo ne kaha, 'Yeh woh look nahi hai, woh comeback nahi horaha'. Gaana hit horaha tha but mujhe accept nahi karahe the log.”

Honey Singh recently made the headlines for remixing Urmila Mantondkar’s iconic song Yai Re from the film Rangeela (1990). He featured in the song alongside Iulia Vantur.
